AQUAIZOL expands range of its rolled materials

“Aquaizol” Plant plans to start, since March-April of 2016, mass production of rolled, melting, polymer-modified bitumen, roofing and waterproofing materials with new type of mineral high-quality protective grit – basaltic one.

The Plant mastered manufacture of the new type of grit in 2015, with the use of own production facilities. The basaltic grit has grey color.

The materials with basaltic grit will be manufactured simultaneously with materials with slaty grit. Materials Ruberit and Ruberit ECO with granite grit will not more be manufactured.

Gradually, as warehouse stock is running out, all the materials having “Ruberit” trademark with granite grit will be replaced by materials having basaltic grit, which are characterized by similar temperature and strength properties.

Manufacture of “Ruberit” TM and "Aquaizol” TM materials with slaty grit will be continued.

Which is purpose of protective grit and which are its functions?

The function of stone grit consists in protection of polymer-modified bitumen (waterproofing) layer from action of direct sunrays. Without protection provided by mineral granules, bitumen quickly spoils, and roofing begins to leak through damaged places.

It is well known that one of the factors contributing to destruction of stone is ability of minerals to absorb moisture (their moisture retaining property). Water penetrating in pores of material converts, under action of frost, into ice and expands (increases its initial volume). These frequent expansions finally lead to destruction of stone. In the territory of Ukraine, so called “freezing-defreezing” cycles occur fery often. It is the reason why a special attention shall be paid to composition and quality of mineral grit used for rolled melting polymer-modified bitumen roofing materials.

Why is new grit manufactured from basalt, which are its advantages?

Basalt is on of the strongest minerals among non-precious rocks – it is real armor for roof cladding.

Basalt almost does not absorb water. That is why, basalt withholds successfully “freezing-defreezing” cycles.

Flat shape of grains (only our rolled materials have basaltic grit with flat grains) and optimum particle composition of basaltic grit provides a tight abutment of stone granules to bitumen base and to each other.

Why majority of other manufacturers of Eurofelt do not use basaltic grit? And which are advantages of basaltic grit over slaty one?

Many manufacturers of Eurofelt do not use basalt up till now only because of the fact that traditional breaking methods give many grains of cubic or round shape characterized by worse retention on bitumen surface. But we do solved this problem due to change of breaking technology and use of special equipment. So the basaltic grit made by us combines both pluses of slate (flat grains) and pluses of basalt (lower water absorption, higher strength).

Has “Aquaizol” Plant an experience in manufacture of rolled materials with basaltic grit?

Our Enterprise has manufactured valley covering (component of bitumen shingles) for more than 10 years. It comprises a rolled polymer-modified bitumen material with upper layer of ceramized basaltic granulated material.

Beginning from November of 2015, our Enterprise manufactures a material with “Ruberit” trademark having basaltic grit of our manufacture. The entire produced material has the specified characteristics: basaltic grit is as good as slaty one, and exceeds the latter by characteristic of water retention property and strength. The first lots of this material are shipped to our customers, and, in spite of its laying in autumn-winter period, we have not received any claim.
